Greenpeace is gravely concerned and shares horror at the escalating violence and conflict in Lebanon, Israel and Gaza.
Greenpeace is opposed to war and violence in every part of the world. The path to peace is never a violent one, and the recent escalation of the conflict in the region is deeply saddening.
Only peaceful cooperation and dialogue between different peoples and nations offer the chance of lasting peace in this region.
Greenpeace believes that the best contribution to the current situation is to continue with campaigns in this region on oceans, energy & disarmament. While nuclear weapons are not a cause of this conflict, they are one key obstacle to attaining peace in the region.
As such our campaign for a peaceful energy revolution and a nuclear free middle east are the most positive and productive steps that can be taken towards greater security and stability in the region and cooperation between states.
Turkey, with 90 nuclear weapons stationed in Incirlik bordering the Middle East, can be considered a nuclear state, of strategic importance in the region. The Turkish government should provide leadership in both Europe/NATO and in the Middle East by getting rid of these weapons and support the call for a nuclear-free Middle East.

Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), who gained the skill to control many attackers at will. He was unique in his ability to express his understanding of universal principles and laws of nature. He was also a very spiritual person who spent years in study, prayer and contemplation. An excellent way to 'experience' harmony and balance in our lives is to practise the martial art of Aikido. In this New Series we turn the spotlight on the most up-to-date ideas on optimum nutrition. What are the most powerful superfoods, how to absorb the nutrients from your food, why minerals are so important, anti-oxidants to fight free radicals and cancer, the spiritual properties of food.
To live at the peak of your lives here on the planet earth, it is essential to develop a positive healthy lifestyle. As part of this lifestyle you must include a definite plan to ensure we are getting and absorbing the necessary nutrients from our food. No one diet plan is suitable for everyone, we are all individuals. Although there are general guidelines that apply to all of us. To achieve optimum nutrition we must consume nutrients that...
1) Promote your best mental performance and emotional balance.
2) Promote your best physical performance.
3) Linked with the lowest incidence of ill-health.
4) Linked with the longest and healthiest life-span.
There are approximately 90 nutrients that are required on a daily basis to promote and maintain good health. It is difficult to get enough of these nutrients through the foods we choose to eat, so it is recommended we take a multi-vitamin/mineral on a daily basis.
There are three main methods of deciding what your individual nutritional needs are depending on your chosen or inherited lifestyle...
1) Symptom analysis - to give you a strong indication of your needs based on groups of signs and symptoms.
2) Lifestyle analysis - to help you identify the main factors in your life that effect your nutritional needs.
3) Dietary analysis - to take into account of your consumption of anti-nutrients that rob the body of nutrients.
Through the study of evolution it becomes clear that the environment we choose to live in determines our diet. This often alters our design and prospects for survival in the future. Humans now have the ability to choose what they eat, but will we nourish ourselves in a way that does not plunder the resources of the planet.

TIPS TO ACHIEVE OPTIMUM NUTRITION
1) Arise in the morning in line with natural sunlight hours and dont eat before fully awake or late at night.
2) Eat when you are hungry, not out of habit. Eat little and often chewing your food thoroughly.
3) Eat half of your diet as raw fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
4) Eat food as raw and unprocessed as possible, preferably organic.
5) Drink plenty of water and avoid sugar and sweeteners.
6) Minimise your intake of dairy foods, refined wheat and grains.
7) Keep active and take regular exercise.
Some of the benefits of optimising your intake of nutrients are... improving intelligence, memory and mood, increasing energy and resistance to stress, achieving peak physical performance, turning back the clock, beating cancer, fighting infections naturally, detoxing the body, defeating allergies, reducing fat, etc.
A deficiency of protein, fats and carbohydrates is very rare. A deficiency of vitamins, minerals and essential fats is very common. Many nutritionists believe that only 1 in 10 people receive sufficient for optimum health. The following top 10 list of diet tips may be helpful to you...
1) Eat 1 heaped teaspoonful of ground seeds every day.
2) Eat 2 servings of beans, lentils, quinoa, tofu (soya) or 'seed' vegetables per day.
3) Eat 3 pieces of fresh fruit per day... apples, pears, bananas, berries, melons or citrus fruits.
4) Eat 4 servings per day of whole grains... rice, millet, rye, oats, wholewheat, corn, bread or pasta.
5) Eat 5 serving per day of dark green leaf or root vegeables... watercress, carrots, sweet potatoes, brocolli, spinach, green beans, peas, peppers.
6) Drink at least 6 glasses of water, diluted juices, herbal or fruit teas.
7) Eat whole, organic, raw food as often as possible.
8) Supplement a high-strength multi-vitamin/mineral, 1000mg of vitamin C and essential omega 3 and 6 fats every day.
9) Avoid fried, burnt, browned food, hydrogenated fats, and excess animal fat.
10) Avoid any forms of sugar, and white, refined, or processed food with chemical additives, minimise intake of alcohol, coffee, tea.
