NEWS Here we feature a series of Local and World Community News that may be of interest to our subscribers...
The 13th Century Sufi poet, Jalaludin Rumi, is enjoying an unexpected renaissance, embraced by such Hollywood celebrities as Madonna and Demi Moore.
A collection of his work has been a best-seller for several months in the United States and Europe, selling more than half-a-million copies - a rarity for poetry, and particularly in America, where poetry tends to sell poorly.
In addition, several festivals in Europe this summer have as their top billing readings of Sufi poetry and the powerful art of Sufi devotional music, Qawwali. Jalaludin Rumi was born in the year 1207 in present day Afghanistan, but what was then the Persian empire. He had a phenomenal following as a mystic and poet in his own lifetime, and 700 years later he has staged a comeback. A recent CD of his love poems has also been hugely successful, with the likes of pop-star Madonna, the actresses, Demi Moore and Goldie Hawn, among those reciting. In Search of New Heroes Peter Culshaw, a freelance writer and musician, says the new interest in Rumi may have something to do with Americans wanting to find a replacement for the New Age movement, which focuses on alternative lifestyles. "My guess is that people are getting fed up with New Age gurus, who are rather making it up as they go along. But there is still the same urge towards something spiritual and mystical and so with Rumi, there is a tradition there, which gives it depth." His poetry may be endorsed by Hollywood, the pop world, and latter day gurus and mystics, but essentially, Rumi was a great teacher and respected mystic. He didn't take poetry very seriously. For him, it was almost a by-product of his spirituality; something that might help him along the spiritual road, but not the main thing. And so it is with Coleman Barks, the man who has made Rumi more accessible than any one else. He has taken someone else's translations - he does not translate from Persian himself - and adapted the words into freer, American English Critics question whether he can legitimately be called a translator, and he is accused by some of eviscerating Rumi and packaging him for the west. But Coleman Barks says Rumi himself kept apologizing for using words at all. "In fact, he says the more seductive and the more beautiful the poetry, the more false, because it gives you the experience that is sort of like what it's talking about, and therefore dangerously deceptive." Coleman Barks has also been criticised by Islamic scholars who claim Rumi as a Muslim poet. Which of course he was, but in his lifetime, Rumi appealed to many faiths and his emphasis on mysticism appealed to people of different beliefs.
AIKIDO THE WAY OF HARMONY
Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), who gained the skill to control many attackers at will. He was unique in his ability to express his understanding of universal principles and laws of nature. He was also a very spiritual person who spent years in study, prayer and contemplation. An excellent way to 'experience' harmony and balance in our lives is to practise the martial art of Aikido. This is an art of Peace that develops in us an acute awareness of our surrounding environment, the ability to be calm, focused, relaxed and centred. Millions of practitioners around the World experience the positive benefits of

HOW TO EFFICIENTLY ABSORB YOUR NUTRIENTS
In this series we turn the spotlight on the most up-to-date ideas on optimum nutrition. What are the most powerful superfoods, how to absorb the nutrients from your food, why minerals are so important, antioxidants to fight free radicals and cancer, and the spiritual properties of food... stay tuned !
Like all other animals on the planet, we spend our lives processing organic matter and waste products. How efficient we are at it determines our energy levels, our longevity and state of body and mind.
A lack of good nutrients and the wrong kinds of foods can result in a faulty digestive system, poor absorption, bloating, inflammation and poor elimination of toxins.
The effect of this disrupts all of our bodily systems... our immunity, the brain and nervous system, hormone balance, and our ability to remove waste.
Good digestion begins with the senses... the sight and smell of food begins a chemical reaction that gets us ready to digest and absorb our foods. Chewing is very important as messages are sent to the digestive tract to prepare enzymes for the break-up of the particular food we are chewing.
In Hatha Yoga, practitioners are recommended to chew each mouthful 36 times before swallowing to ensure absorption...
"Drink your food and Eat your fluid"
Food then passes into the stomach, where large proteins are broken down into smaller groups of amino acids. The first stage of protein digestion is carried out by hydrochloric acid released from the wall of the stomach, this is dependent on Zinc. Hydrochloric acid and zinc often decline in old age leading to indigestion, and food allergy.
Some people produce too much stomach acid, also causing indigestion and heartburn. This can be improved by avoiding acid-forming and irritating foods and drinks... alcohol, coffee, tea, aspirin, meat, fish, eggs.
The minerals Calcium and Magnesium are very alkaline and can have a calming effect on people suffering from excess acidity.
500 Years of Health Secrets
Harmony of Mind-Body-Spirit at the Aikido Health Centre IMPROVED ABSORPTION FOR NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS
The pancreas and liver produce numerous digestive enzymes for breaking down carbohydrates, fats and proteins in the small intestine. The production of these enzymes depend on many micro-nutrients especially Vitamin B6.
Without these micro-nutrients the digestive process becomes sluggish and gradually becomes less and less efficient, leading to flatulence, bloating, and abdominal pain. Correcting the levels of digestive enzymes with supplements helps the nutrient levels in the whole body.
Fat is broken down by a substance called bile that is produced by the liver and stored in the gall bladder. Bile contains lecithin, which helps emulsify large fat particles. Lecithin can be used as a supplement to improve this process, especially for people who have had their gall bladder removed.
Probiotics are of great benefit to your digestive system. Both proteins and fats can be broken down into amino acids and fatty acids by Lactobacilli bacteria. The suger in milk is broken down into glucose and galactose. They improve the absorption of calcium and other minerals, make vitamins K, B12 and folic acid, and relieve constipation.
One of the ways probiotics help is by promoting the healing and repair of the digestive tract when it is irritated or damaged by... alcohol, painkillers or antibiotics. Inflammatory diseases like arthritis have been shown to have been helped by probiotics. The most proven benefits are in cases of diarrhoea caused by bacteria infections, and food allergies.
An excellent form of taking probiotic good bacteria is the daily use of natural live yoghurt (organic of course).
Many of the foods we eat irritate and damage the sensitive balance in our digestive system and is the source of many of our health problems...
"We Are What We Eat"
Wheat contains a protein called gluten, a known intestinal irritant. A small amount may be tolerated, but mant people consume it in large ammounts. It is found in... biscuits, toast, bread, cereals, cakes, pastry, and pasta. Alternatives to wheat... rice, corn, quinoa and buckwheat are all gluten free.
Sugar, indigestion and regular courses of antibiotics effect the digestive tract. There are about 300 different strains of bacteria in the gut, most of which are essential. They protect us from harmful bacteria, viruses, and other dangerous organisms.
Antibiotics wipe out both the good and bad bacteria and should not be taken unless absolutely necessary. A high sugar diet, including fruit can cause a yeast like infection called candida albicans.

HOW TO EFFICIENTLY DIGEST YOUR NUTRIENTS
We are all concerned about our family's health and try to help them eat the correct foods by preparing nutritious meals. This is an uphill struggle as we have to deal with many powerful companies spending millions on marketing damaging products, for a vast profit.
We must all learn to avoid these distractions in our search for optimum health.
To get maximum benefit from the nutrients you give your body, it is essential to ensure your digestive and intestinal systems are running smoothly. Food is converted into the necessary energy to drive our biological functions.
We all have a large list of nutritional requirements necessary to experience optimum health. These cannot be met through the foods that we consume, many of which have little nutritional value.
The soil they are grown in is depleted of minerals, unless you always eat organically produced foods they are sprayed with chemical insecticides and pesticides. They are processed and heated, with many chemicals added... what chance do we have ?
Science has identified mineral defficiencies as contributors to many diseases and health disorders. What we need is a product that supplements our requirements on a daily basis... MAXIMOL SOLUTIONS
Essential minerals, trace minerals, vitamins, amino acids (build, maintain and replace tissue), antioxidants (protect against free radicals), Fructooligosaccharides (assist the absorption of minerals and support the growth of good bacteria), phytochemicals (micronutrients found in fruits and vegetables).
Maximol Solutions from Neways is among the best I have found in my 30 years of research into optimum health and longevity and I can highly recommend it. For more information visit...
