Energy from the Desert
www.positivenews.org.uk Countries of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa are collaborating to take advantage of the truly monumental quantities of energy that fall as sunlight on the world’s hot deserts. Dr Franz Trieb, from the German Air and Space Agency, explains...
“We can tap into this energy by using mirrors to concentrate sunlight and create heat. The heat can be used to raise steam and drive a generator in a conventional way. This kind of Concentrating Solar Power has been successfully producing elec-tricity in California for nearly 20 years.”
Initially, the countries producing the electricity will supply their own needs, but it is still feasible and cost-effective to transmit solar electricity over long distances without much loss of power. And everyone in the world lives within 2,500 miles of a desert.
Every year, each square kilometre of desert receives solar energy equivalent to 1.5 million barrels of oil. Multiplied by the area of deserts worldwide, this is nearly one thousand times the entire energy consumption of the world.
As an added bonus, fresh water can be made by desalinating the seawater using waste heat from Concentrating Solar Power. The water can also be used for horticulture and be protected from the harshness of direct tropical sunlight under the solar mirrors.
AIKIDO THE WAY OF HARMONY
Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), who gained the skill to control many attackers at will. He was unique in his ability to express his understanding of universal principles and laws of nature. He was also a very spiritual person who spent years in study, prayer and contemplation. This is a martial art of Peace that develops in us an acute awareness of our surrounding environment, the ability to be calm, focused, relaxed and centred. Millions of Aikido practitioners around the World experience the positive benefits of...

SOUND VIBRATIONS FOR HEALING
Everything in the Universe is vibrating. The chair you are sitting on is not solid, but made up of molecules all vibrating at different frequencies depending on the materials it is made from.
Our organs, chakras and different areas of our bodies, all sing a different note, which when blended together, produce a symphony that is as unique as a fingerprint. In an ideal world we would all be in harmony and balance, but due to the constant bombardment of factors (stress, negative energy, pollution etc) we are often being pulled 'out of tune' resulting in dis-ease.
Sound Therapy is used to re-tune and re-train the chakras and energy systems of the body to sing the right note - often by playing the note the chakra needs. This can be done using ancient and modern instruments such as singing bowls (crystal and Himalayan), tuning forks, voice, etc.
In an ideal world, we would detect and clear our imbalances before they were able to manifest in physical illness. However, so often this is not the case, as we often keep going until forced to take notice, in which case, it may take longer to clear the existing blockage.
However, Sound Therapy has been used with very positive results for a wide range of illnesses such as chronic pain, depression and anxiety, cysts, hormonal problems, insomnia, food poisoning, migraine etc.
This method is by no means new - many ancient civilisations used sound as a powerful tool for healing and transformation. The best practitioners today combine both ancient and modern techniques, producing an effective healing tool that is a blend of scientific fact, intuition and thousands of years of knowledge.
The human hearing spectrum is between 16 - 16,000 hertz (Hz) or cycles per second (CPS). Just because we can’t hear a sound, it doesn’t mean to say it’s not there - or that we cannot feel it. As everything in the Universe is made up of molecules, the Universe and people are full of sound.
Each part of our body, each organ, our muscles, skin and bones give off different frequencies or sounds, in fact, as you breathe, eat, or read this article, you are emitting a sound as individual as your fingerprints.
If your life-style, thoughts, words actions and so on are positive and they nourish you, then fine. It is nature’s way to balance the body as best it can, and we are continually doing a wonderful dance with our body chemistry, temperature, cycles and rhythms to keep us functioning well.
However, if you are repeatedly exposed to - lets call it, ‘negative energy’ (poor diet, unhappy relationships, environmental and chemical stresses, and so on) it can literally pull the body out of tune.
Sometimes the body gets so used to being out of tune, it forgets the ideal energy blueprint it used to enjoy - and adopts a less healthy blueprint which eventually results in imbalance, illness and dis-ease.
Just as there is an energy blueprint for the organs, bones etc, there is also one for the chakra system. The chakras work as little pump houses to transfer energy throughout the body via channels called meridians.
The chakras take subtle energy to the vital organs bones and skin, feeding the body with life-force, prana, chi etc. A fully functioning chakra allows for the energy to flow through the body unhindered, therefore resulting in a health and harmony of mind, body & spirit.

WHY IS SOUND SO GOOD FOR HEALING
Water is a very good carrier for sound, which is proven by the fact that whale and dolphin song can be heard for miles under water, yet doesn’t carry very far in the air. We are made up of 70-80% water and therefore sound literally goes right through us, gently but effectively penetrating at a cellular level. Balancing, nurturing and healing mind, body and spirit.
The gentle tones of healing sound gently remove blockages in the energy system, therefore allowing the free-flow of prana or chi to be resumed. The end result being the body heals itself.
Certain tones, instruments and vowel sounds can be used for different chakras, however the most important thing to remember is the intention behind the sound. The ‘equation’ for optimum healing to take place is sound + positive intention = healing effect.
Sound releases imbalances, not only on a physical, but also an emotional and spiritual level. Sound is a powerful, primitive force. For centuries, healers have intuitively used the therapeutic powers of sound.
Many tools have been used since the beginning of time to create music, and to aid healing - gongs, Tibetan bowls, didgeridoos, rattles and drums. More modern sound therapy tools are tuning forks, chimes, resonator plates, sound discs, and sound tables. All play an important role in healing.
Sound is that which is produced when some object is vibrating in a random or periodic repeated motion. Every object has a frequency or vibration and therefore creates sound.
All matter, broken down into subatomic particles consists of pulsing energy fields. This includes the human body, physical, emotional and spiritual. The body gives off and is affected by frequency or vibration.
The human ear can hear sound when it vibrates between 20 and 20,000 cycles per second. We also hear and perceive sound by skin and bone conduction. We are sensitive to sounds in ways that most people do not even consider.
People report a variety of sensations during sound treatments... seeing forms, lights, colors, shapes etc. It suggests they've entered a different healing state of consciousness.
Modern science has shown that in the human body, auditory nerves are linked to our sense of proportion and balance, and have the power to shift our energy to the "center", bringing about a feeling of connection.
With intuitive wisdom, healers and shamans of many cultures correctly sensed that listening to vibrational sound helps us access these auditory nerves in a way which may increase receptivity to healing energy. They knew sounds and music could induce trance states to help identify illness, and even open gateways for new healing energy to flow through.
Great musicians of all time have known of and written about the nature of sound and its power to bring the listener to a divine state.

SOUND VIBRATIONS IN MUSIC THERAPY
The sounds that are used in a healing session induce a shift in consciousness that helps the clients to get unstuck from their belief in disease or misfortune. Actually, it is not the sounds; it is the no-tone in between tones that has a healing effect. It is the silence that takes clients back to their pure state of being.
The body is an orchestra receiving and producing a symphony of sounds, chemicals, electrical charges, colors, and images. When we are in good health, the instruments in our orchestra perform fluidly and in tune. When we are sick or ailing, one or more instrument is flat or sharp, unstrung, deficient in tone.
Any object living or non-living, real or a product of someone's imagination, has its unique energetic vibrational field. When two vibrational fields meet, they strengthen each other if they vibrate in harmony, and weaken if there is vibrational disharmony. Illnesses have negative vibrations.
Music has been used in birthing, counseling, and massage rooms, during physical therapy, in helping stroke, burn, and cancer victims, with brain damaged and multiply handicapped children, and in psychiatric hospitals, addiction treatment centers, and prisons.
To the public, music therapy is generally an unknown field. Music holds a prominent position in our society and educational systems as a performing, entertaining art. Historically, music has been a primary tool for spiritual and physical alignment, used at political and social gatherings, as well as for family, civic, or educational ceremonies.
Truly religious music awakens and stimulates the spiritual seeds that exist in every one of us, waiting to come to life. It lifts us above the level of everyday consciousness, up into those higher realms where light, love and joy reign. The healing properties of music were well known by the ancient civilizations, and they deliberately used it for such purpose.
Pythagoras based musical education in the first place on certain melodies and rhythms that exercised healing to human actions and passions. He applied the same means to the curing of diseases of both body and mind.
Plato accorded just as much importance to music as a powerful means of mental therapy and education. Aristotle mentions among the various functions of music that of emotional healing.
Music therapy helps clients achieve a state of deep relaxation, develop self-awareness and creativity, improve learning, clarify personal values, and cope with a variety of dysfunctions. Appropriate music serves in achieving the relaxation response by removing one's inner restlessness and quieting ceaseless thinking. It can be used as a healing ritual to stop the mind from running away and enable thinking to become still so that one can achieve inner quietness and relaxation.
Music can assist the individual in moving through six states of consciousness: normal waking state, expanded sensory threshold, daydreaming, trance, transcendental states, and rapture.
During relaxation, music is first perceived in a normal wakeful state. As relaxation continues, sensory thresholds are lowered, and expanded awareness states predominate.
The resonant quality of sounds is produced by the vibratory characteristics of an instrument. It is the pattern of frequencies produced, but not heard as separate pitches, that give an instrument or voice its distinctive tone quality.
There is a sacred syllable AUM (OM). Aum is intoned in the following manner: "Ah-Ooh-Mm." The vowel Ah is intoned on an outgoing breath; then, breathing smoothly, without pause, add the Ooh sound to the Ah; then close the lips gently to form an Mm sound.
