Change4Life – eat well, move more, live longer
Change4Life is a new movement, supported by the Department of Health, which aims to improve children’s diets and levels of activity so reducing the threat to their future health and happiness. Their goal is to help every family in England eat well, move more and live longer.
The challenge - Obesity is growing at an alarming rate and making a significant impact on individuals, our National Health Service and society as a whole. The Government Office for Science's Foresight Report forecasts that by 2050, 60% of men and 50% of women could be obese. There is a clear link between having too much fat in your body and preventable illnesses like diabetes, coronary heart disease, cancer and depression.
Their ambition is to be the first major nation to reverse the rising tide of obesity and overweight in the population. Their focus at the start will be on children.
While parents acknowledge childhood obesity is a problem they do not think it is their problem.
Parents underestimate the amount they and their children eat and overestimate the amount of activity the family does.
Parents do not make the connection between unhealthy weight status and long-term health problems.
NHS workforce role
Change4Life is calling on a host of national, regional and local partners – from within government, health care, the media and the commercial and voluntary sectors - to help. The movement is just beginning and your energy, knowledge and involvement will be needed to help make it work.
We’re already communicating with people who work directly with at-risk young families in healthcare and community settings. A diverse coalition of people has already pledged to be part of the movement and new people join them every day. Change4Life will draw on all the good work already happening locally on tackling obesity and it will work with partners to develop and support new initiatives.
What they are rolling out is just the start of what will be a big, integrated communications plan, including a national advertising campaign (coming soon).

FOCUS YOUR MIND ON AIKIDO TRAINING
In this article I will include some of the best mind power tips and tools to help you achieve fast results.
As you know aikido training has many different levels of skill training built in to the practise. In fact there are so many aspects to the art that it can become very confusing and difficult to know where to focus your mind during regular practise.
Here are just some of the areas you will need to concentrate and focus on during your aikido training...
1 - Remembering exactly where you should be and what you should doing at all times in the dojo. This will include etiquette, and how to conduct your behaviour while in the dojo (and in life).
2 - Concentrating on your posture or form, and how to improve your ability to control your mind and body movements.
3 - Focusing on how you should be connecting with your training partners, whether nage (performer of technique) or uke (receiver of technique).
4 - The concentration required to remember hundreds of different techniques, that you must perform when your instructor asks you to.
5 - Understanding the theory and principles involved in the art of aikido.
6 - Working out how to use all of your valuable and hard training in your life for the benefit of humankind.
7 - Developing the mental capacity to go on to become an aikido instructor and teach the art to other people.
As you can see, the list goes on and you soon realise that it may well be a lifetime of study. In fact it was and is for O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba and many amazing Aikido Masters and Instructors.
The trick is learning how to mentally place all of these subjects in your mind, in a way that can be ready to access at any moment. Of course if you find out how to do this... please drop me a line and let me know. In the meantime I will give you some of my thoughts on the subject - below.

MIND POWER FOR AIKIDO
So, we have established that it is difficult to learn all of the aspects of the art of aikido in a short space of time. But, is it possible to fast-track your training and avoid unneccessary delays and blocks along your path to aikido excellence?
YES, I believe there are several key ways to achieve this. But before we look at some of them more closely, lets think about what may be slowing down the learning process.
The human mind can only concentrate on one thing at a time. It appears that it can do more, but has the skill of jumping from one thing to another very quickly. So the less it has to think about the faster it will learn new things.
Your mind focuses on what it needs to complete the task that you put before it, so how can you take away some of the distractions that will come up? If you solve the following issues then your mind can focus on the more important parts of your aikido training, speeding up the process.
1 - You should be very enthusiastic to achieve a high level of skill.
2 - You should be fit enough for it not to be an issue during training.
3 - You should have good stamina, core strength and flexibility.
4 - You should be willing to help your training partners on the path.
5 - You should have a fully qualified and experienced aikido instructor.

FOCUS YOUR AIKIDO MIND POWER
Well, so far we have looked at the many different aspects of aikido training, and how to reduce mental distractions. Of course now its time to look at some of the best ways to learn the most important skill in aikido.
The human mind learns new things by thought and repetition. So the fastest way to learn is to focus your thoughts on what you are doing and repeat it over and over again until it becomes a fixed skill. This repetitive behaviour tends to become boring, but if you stop focusing your mind on the increasing detail of what you are doing, that is when you stop learning.
Who is in control here You or your mind... mind is just a tool for your use. If you don't discipline and use it, it will use you!
This is why so many aikido instructors chop and change the training techniques often, as they can see a glazed look come over the students, when they become bored with what they are covering. The wise instructors allow the students to continue with the same techniques long enough for them to improve each time they are covered.
So, now we have established that you must control your mind and discipline it to work for you. I recommend that you focus your mind on one thing at a time, study it, learn it, digest it, and then move on to the next. Once you have done this you have taken a large leap towards fast-tracking your aikido skills development to a completely new level.
