Okay, so my number one Aikido organisation is...
AIKIDO JOURNAL - www.aikidojournal.com
The Aikido journal is an online magazine that provides some of the very best articles, interviews, and discussion of Aikido techniques anywhere.
Few people know as much about aikido history as Stanley Pranin, who has made the most detailed analysis of the art. As editor-in-chief of Aiki News, which became Aikido Journal, he has accurately documented the life of Morihei Ueshiba, founder of aikido. Stanley started Aiki News in 1974 after translating Japanese documents about the life of Morihei Ueshiba. After handing a few around, lots of people wanted them, so he began to make copies and decided to do a newsletter. He added O'Sensei articles, local area news, letters to the editor, and interviews with Japanese Sensei (instructors).
He has shown that historically there is a very important connection between Daito-ryu Aiki-Jujutsu, O-Sensei and the Omoto religion. Stanley Pranin points out that Morihiro Saito Sensei, had a very unique opportunity to study with the founder in more detail than anyone else. He received so much technical instruction directly from the founder and his mind is very methodical so he’s been able to classify it and explain it in a way that is much, much easier to understand. So, by preserving Saito Sensei’s techniques it’s the next best thing to preserving O-Sensei’s techniques. There is no other sensei who knows this subject to this depth, who can explain it clearly or who saw O-Sensei over a long period of time and could see the changes.
From 1942, Iwama, Japan was Morihei Ueshiba's home where he felt most comfortable in his later years. The dojo has kept this old flavor. It’s not a modern concrete building. The surroundings are very beautiful and the Aiki shrine is there and for O-Sensei the spiritual aspect were very important. I recommend that you visit the Aikido Journal website for an accurate history of Aikido and the best information on O'Sensei.
AIKI EXTENSIONS - www.aiki-extensions.org
Aiki Extensions is a charitable organisation whose aims are to take the principles of Aikido out into the world to create harmony and peace among peoples of all cultures.
They encourage friendly communication among those who apply the practice and theory of Aikido in venues outside of normal dojo settings. Adding the extension of aiki principles and practices to problem situations and areas of conflict around the world.
The Aiki Corps are experienced Aikido practitioners who volunteer their time and skills to help provide Aikido training for kids living in situations of poverty or violence. Placements have made a big difference in San Francisco, Awassa, Ethiopia, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
They bring Aikido practitioners from conflicting ethnic groups together to practice and have transformed relationships with political and social tensions, former enemies creating lasting friendships.
Working with inter-ethnic communications in Cyprus, Bosnia, Israel, and Ethiopia, participants in this project hope to build bridges by promoting training opportunities for Aikido practitioners from groups normally separated by rigid ethnic or national boundaries.
The Salaam Shalom Aikido initiative aspires to create joint Palestinian and Israeli aikido training centers in order to build bi-communal ties and strengthen inter-cultural relations.
Aikido practice has proven its ability to foster communication between groups otherwise beset by chronic tensions. Aiki-Extensions sponsored training opportunities for Greek and Turkish Cypriots in 2005. Croatian, Muslim, and Serbian practitioners trained together throughout the Sarajevo meltdown, and Aikido training for Bosnian leaders outside the country led to peace-building projects.
Aiki methods are very effective in helping survivors of abuse recover from trauma. Teaching the Aiki elements of body awareness, calmness, empowerment, compassion, and self-protection has a great deal to offer as a complement to traditional psychotherapeutic approaches.
A Peace Dojo is a martial arts school in which martial practice is explicitly oriented towards teaching skills of non-violence, conflict resolution, and peacemaking. Martial practice is uniquely valuable for practicing peace because attack/defense drills offer the opportunity to train oneself to receive an opponent in an empathic and harmonious way.
AIKIWEB - www.aikiweb.com
AikiWeb, is the world's most active online Aikido community! The site is home to over 16,000 aikido practitioners from around the world and covers a wide range of aikido topics including techniques, philosophy, history, humor, beginner issues, the marketplace, and more.
AikiWeb began in 1997, and it's principal purpose is to serve the Internet community as a collection of and starting point for aikido information.
It is run by Jun Akiyama and has received awards and recognition from... Yahoo, Netscape Directory, NBCi and DMOZ.
He gives special thanks to Cindy Paloma, who maintained the original Aikido Information site and Jun inherited the aikido dojo listings. He says that without her pioneering efforts, there would be no AikiWeb.

LEADING EDGE AIKIDO GROUPS
AIKIDO ONLINE - www.aikidoonline.com
Aikido Online reflects the teachings of one of the most prominent group of Aikido Shihan (master teachers) living outside of Japan today. This group consists of the North American Shihankai Sensei's, Yoshimitsu Yamada, Akira Tohei, T.K. Chiba, Mitsunari Kanai, Seiichi Sugano, Yukio Kawahara, Yutaka Kurita, Ichiro Shibata and Nobuyoshi Tamura in Europe.
These Shihan, most of whom were uchideshi (live-in disciples) of O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, were in close contact with him during the height of his creative development of Aikido. Beginning in the early 1960's they left Japan and moved abroad to teach the Aikido they had learned from O'Sensei. They became the pioneers and driving forces behind the tremendous international growth of Aikido throughout North and South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and the Middle East. In spite of their physical separation, they have maintained a close association with Aikikai Hombu Dojo and each other for over 40 years.
Aikido Online was created to be an information centre that taps into this invaluable resource: the art of Aikido as learned and experienced by these Shihan. It is their intention, as their students and as recipients of their legacy, to make Aikido Online a place where their knowledge is made available and shared with all those interested in the art of Aikido. They also want Aikido Online to be an interactive forum, where knowledge, viewpoints and ideas can be exchanged, and where understanding and communication can expand.
