Physical fitness involves a general level of fitness, which offers you plenty of energy, good health, and well-being. It's good to focus on a particular interest, sport, or way of life, in order to stay motivated.
You can be at a good level of fitness for one sport or exercise routine. But you can also be in a poor fitness level for another.
Why?
Well, it's all down to your body/mind memory. Repetitive practice leads to physical fitness and a level of skill in your individual choice of training.
This allows you to relax into your routine.
But, when you try other skills that you are not used to, they take more mental and physical focus to carry them out. This causes a certain level of tension in your muscles, which become tired much faster.
In the past, you were thought to have a good level of physical fitness if you could carry out your daily activities without becoming tired.
But, lifestyles have changed and generally, we don't get enough exercise from our work and leisure time. So it's important to add a healthy exercise routine to your day, or at least 3 times a week.
Physical fitness is where your body can function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, and to resist illiness and dis-ease. Your fitness programme should include the following...
Cardiovascular exercise will improve your inner organs and circulation. This allows your respiratory systems to supply fuel during sustained physical activity.
Try activities that keep your heart rate elevated at a safe level for a sustained length of time such as walking, swimming, cycling, jogging, running, etc.
The activity you choose does not have to be difficult, so start slowly with an activity you enjoy, and gradually work up to a more intense pace.
Flexibility training helps blood flow freely to every part of your body. Also to lengthen your muscles and improve the elasticity of your tendons and ligaments.
Good Flexibility in and around the joints can help prevent injuries through all stages of your life. Try swimming, stretching, Yoga, etc.
Muscular strength gives you the ability to use force during an activity to keep your muscles in optimum condition. The key to making your muscles stronger is working them against resistance.
This can be from using muscle against muscle, using weights, etc.
Muscular Endurance is the ability of your muscles to continue to perform without becoming tired. To improve your muscle endurance, try cardio-respiratory activities such as walking, jogging, cycling, etc.
Body Composition is amount of muscle, fat, bone, tendons, ligaments etc. Your body weight may not change much over time, but how much of that is fat.
General Skill Training would include a comprehensive physical fitness programme designed to suit your exact individual health needs.
Of course, mental, emotional, and nutritional health are an important part of your overall fitness. This can help you prevent or treat many chronic health conditions brought on by an unhealthy lifestyle or aging.
